Following a changed schedule today is the second of 3 days in Chinese base camp. Instead of 2 days here and 2 days moving to ABC we have 3 days here and a single day's trek to ABC. This has been agreed in order to have longer to acclimatise here before we move up. We have spent this morning on the low cliffs around the campsite practising our jumaring and abseiling techniques so that these will be second nature when we need them for real on the ice cliffs above Camp 1 on the mountain. After lunch we shall reast to allow our bodies to catch up with the big jump in altitude over the past 2 days. Many people would assume that climbing these huge mountains is about fitness and training, and of course that is important, but if you don't acclimatise properly then no amount of training and fitness will get you to the top. Therefore much of the initial part of the expedition is move up then rest, move up some more and then rest some more. I suspect this will be the format for tomorrow too, but I'll let you know...
